This pedagogical orientation, namely the APC/ESV,
takes into account developments in didactics, gives
meaning to mathematical learning,
promotes better intellectual development and harmonious integration into society, which
is the main purpose of education in
Cameroon (law on the orientation of education in
Cameroon, article 4, 1998). General objectives
being among others:
- To train citizens rooted in
their culture and open to the world; ¤ of
develop creativity, a sense of
initiative…..;
In the 1st cycle, French is based on six modules which
are actually the different aspects or areas
of life: daily life, family life and
socio-cultural, economic life,
environment and citizenship, well-being and
health, media and communication.
The schedule for the school year is
divided according to these modules.
In each module are taught all the
French activities: grammar, spelling,
conjugation, vocabulary, written expression and
oral expression. The teaching of each activity follows a
pedagogical or didactic approach well
known.
With regard to the evaluation method, it includes
two parts: the assessment of resources and
skills assessment.
Resource assessment:
Three tests.
- Text study: coef 1. This test focuses on
a text followed by a questionnaire divided into two
headings (Comprehension of the text 10 pts/
Language handling 10pts).
- Spelling correction: coef.1 This
test concerns a text in which errors
deliberately slipped must be identified and
corrected.
- Dictation: Coef 1. This test concerns a text
orally dictated that the learner must return
in writing.
Skills assessment: Two tests.
- Written expression: Coef 2 (6th/5th); coefficient 1 (4th/3rd).
This test relates to a task to be carried out by
the learner by mobilizing the resources acquired.
- Oral expression: coefficient 2 (6th/5th); coefficient 1(4th/3rd) .
This test covers the oral presentation, the
recitation, oral comprehension and
dramatization.
NB. *Oral expression is the only test that
is not evaluated at the BEPC.
* Spelling correction and dictation
are at the discretion of the examiner.
II- Second cycle.
1.1. Activities carried out.
In the 2nd cycle the activities are not
leaned on modules. The chronogram
is based on three basic skills: a
linguistic, literary and
methodological.
- The linguistic activities carried out are:
communication, morphosyntax, lexicology,
semantics, stylistics and rhetoric.
- The literary activities carried out are: the
reading of the complete works and the grouping
of texts.
- The methodological activities carried out
are: text summary, text analysis, discussion, dissertation, commentary
composition, oral presentation, dramatization.
The timetable for the year incorporates all
activities in a decompartmentalised way.
The assessment method has two parts
as in the first cycle: the evaluation of
resources and skills assessment.
- Resource assessment: only one
French language test, coef 2 (series
literary), coef 1 (scientific series). This
test is based on a text followed by a
questionnaire divided into four sections:
communications (5pts); morphosyntax (5pts);
semantics and lexicology (5pts); stylistic and
rhetoric (5pts).
- Skills assessment: only one
literature test, coef 3 (series
literary); coef 2 (scientific series). This
test has three subjects. - The contraction of text that counts two
headings: summary or analysis (9 pts) and
discussion (9pts). - The literary dissertation on a
subject which poses a literary problem. - The compound commentary (literary series
only) which relates to a literary text
meant to be analyzed and reinterpreted.
NB. All of these tests are graded
probationary and baccalaureate.
